a blog about how a studying a law degree and passing with distinction, can relate back to marketing
Every Monday at Channelzero, CEO Mikey Taylor passes on some pearls of wisdom and key learnings from the week before. In a previous work life, Mikey was a lawyer. This week Mikey was asked by a law student friend for some top tips on how to pass her degree. As Mikey was explaining the principles of passing a law degree by either, just passing, averaging-out or kicking-arse with a high distinction, he realised that the same rules still applied to Marketing.
So, how does a law degree relate back to the way we work in Marketing?
- If you want to just scrape through with a pass, you only need to know and apply the basics.
- To get a better grade, show that you not only understand the basics, but you can reference successful cases studies that have worked in the past and build trust for future success.
- If you want to pass with high distinction, show you understand the basics, you know what has worked in the past and most importantly show that you can apply genuine and original thought.
Whether you’re studying law, marketing or trying to succeed in life, knowing the basics isn’t enough. Knowing what has worked in the past isn’t enough – you have to be able to apply original thought to any given situation or brief.
This past week, we had the opportunity to add transformative value to a client’s bottom line by understanding these principles and applying original thought
to their challenge.
How will you change your future for the better by taking that extra leap?
